New Athens, Illinois

NA Police “Serving and Protecting”

On July 14, 2021 at 0435 hours the New Athens Police Department observed a vehicle in town matching the description from the Marissa car burglaries and auto thefts on July 11. Marissa PD had passed that information to the New Athens PD. The vehicle began to speed away from the New Athens squad car and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit ended at Rt. 15 and Interstate 255 after Cahokia Heights PD successfully deployed strike strips. Four males were taken into custody with no injuries. Three of the subjects are juveniles and one adult. All subjects are in custody pending further investigation. The New Athens Police Department would like to thank the Marissa, Freeburg, Cahokia Heights, and Belleville Police Departments, along with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, The Illinois State Police, and the Auto Theft Task Force for their assistance.

To date there was a total of 31 cars entered in New Athens. Some had items stolen from them while some cars were just rummaged through.

Next time you see a New Athens Policeman tell them “thank you”

Mayor Joe
