The Corps of Engineers recently inspected the Kaskaskia River levee that borders the east side of the river.
This barrier protects the Village of New Athens from floods. The levee is under the jurisdiction of the Corps of Engineers and owned and maintained by the Village of New Athens.
The Corps of Engineers rates the levee as one of the best maintained in the area. Because of the excellent maintenance program in the event there is damage to the levee because of natural causes, the Corps of Engineers will be responsible for the cost of repairing the damages.
The entire village board is grateful for the efforts of the village employees in doing a great job of maintaining the levee.
